What a kitchen remodel includes
Cabinets and countertops
Stock, semi-custom or fully custom cabinets, with quartz, granite, quartzite or natural stone tops templated from the installed cabinets.
Layout changes and islands
Opening walls, moving the sink or range, and adding an island, with the structural and mechanical work that comes with them.
Lighting and electrical
Recessed, under-cabinet and pendant lighting, new circuits for appliances, and induction or electric ranges that need their own circuit.
Plumbing, gas and ventilation
Sink and dishwasher lines, gas for a range, and a range hood sized for the cooktop and vented to the outdoors.
Floors and backsplash
Tile, hardwood or resilient flooring, and a tile or slab backsplash.
Appliances
Planned into the cabinet design from the start, because cabinet sizes depend on appliance specifications.

Older kitchens
Many kitchens around here sit in older houses: in Pitman, the median home was built in 1945 (U.S. Census Bureau). Permits

Timelines vary with the scope, the house and how long selections and permits take. For a national benchmark, kitchen projects averaged 9.5 months of planning and 5.8 months of construction among U.S. homeowners who renovated in 2025, according to the 2026 U.S. Houzz & Home Study. Those averages include do-it-yourself work. Planning taking longer than building is normal, and it is where a project's budget is won or lost. Whatever the length, New Jersey requires a home improvement contract to state the dates or time period for starting and finishing the work (N.J.A.C. 13:45A-16.2).

Can you open my kitchen to the living room?
Usually. If the wall carries load, it comes out with a beam in its place, and anything running through it (ducts, pipes, wiring) is rerouted. Cutting a load-bearing wall is never ordinary maintenance, so it always needs a permit (N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.7).
Do you handle the kitchen design, or do I need an architect?
We handle the design: measurements, layout options, finish selection and a virtual rendering you see before construction starts. That is the point of design-build: one company is responsible from the first drawing to the final walkthrough.
Will I have a working kitchen during the remodel?
Not once demolition starts. Most households set up a temporary kitchen in another room with the refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker, and plan meals around the gap between cabinet installation and countertops, which are measured from the installed cabinets.
